When listening to Katy Perry's Dark Horse song and comparing it to Flame's Joyful Noise rap, you can hear that the verses of the songs are slightly similar. However, it is clear that Katy Perry did not copy the whole song, as the chorus is very different, for example, the words, pitch, and beat aren't the same. Surprisingly, the rapper Joyful Noise, sued Katy Perry on the claims that it was an infringement of copyright. I think that is absolutely ridiculous because they belong to different genres, they are obviously about two completely different things - as the Flame song is a Christian rap, and the tune is different as well. I believe that Katy Perry has created one hundred percent original work. In my opinion, the guidelines that should be followed by creators when producing music is that as long as the song does not have the entire beat of another song, or the same words throughout, nor the same tune for the entire song, there is not copy write infringement or "ripping other artists off". My question is, what's going to happen in a hundred years when so much music is out? Artists won't have any more music to create because all the beats will already be out there, and they won't be allowed to use them because it will be considered a copyright issue.
